As the biggest water, land and air transportation hub in inland China, Wuhan has long been well known as a “throughfare to nine provinces ”. With an equidistance of 1000 km away from other major Chinese cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and xi’an, Wuhan stands out as China’s geo-economic “heart” and plays a role of linking east and west, connecting north and south and serving all directions. The unique geographical advantage gives the edge to Wuhan’s exceptional advantage in transportation.
As to railways, Wuhan is one of China’s four major hubs. Passageways such Beijing-guangzhou, Beijing-guangzhou passenger special line, Wuhan-Jiujiang, Wuhan-Danjiangkou and Shanghai -Chengdu meet in Wuhan. In the year of 2009, Wuhan north marshalling yard which has been said the largest scale of Asia and the most complex technology in the whole country was formally put into operation, It strengthen its position of national passenger and goods centre.
In terms of airs, Wuhan airport, one of the six major regional hub airports, has 10 airport companies participating in operation and about 160 international and domestic lines. It can reach 60 international and domestic big cities and areas. After the construction of the third phase of Wuhantianhe airport, the annual passenger throughput reaches 38 million and the cargo and volume is 440 thousand. At the scheduled time, Wuhanwill be the fourth air hub after Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
In the aspect of water transportation, Wuhan is a waterway transportation hub of the Yangtze River and a national level hub port. 35 large and medium-sized ports and 397 terminal berths form the natural shipping network which take the Yangtze River and the Han River as the backbone and connect many tributaries
of the river. With the successive completion of Yangluo port, Jinkou heavy cargo port, Wuhan Iron And Steel Corp jiangbei port and Qingshan Shipyard Heavy Cargo port, Wuhan is becoming “the shipping center in the middle of YangziRiver”.
And to land transportation, national trunk highways Beijing-Zhuhai and Shanghai-Chengdu meet in Wuhan. High-speed channel such as Wuhan -Xiaogan, Wuhan-Macheng form Four vertical, four horizontal and one ring” with Wuhan high way. As a result, it only takes 30minutes to go far city zone, 2 hours to go cities in city circle and 4 hours to go cities of circumjacent provincial capitals.

The great advantages in its geographical location and transportation have brought about the rapid growth of Wuhan’s modern logistics. To build Wuhan into a state level logistics hub city, a modern logistics system in well planned with modern logistics parks, logistics centers and delivery centers as the joints. As a result, Wuhan emerges as bridge connecting domestic and international markets and promoting interaction among China’s eastern, central and western parts.
